Drug Take Back Day is October 28

Expired and unused prescription medications should not be left sitting in your medicine cabinet or kitchen drawer.  At the upcoming Drug Take Back Day, those old and unwanted medications can be safely disposed of so they don’t fall into the wrong hands or pollute the water supply.

Anybody wishing to safely dispose of prescription or non-prescription medications should bring those items to one of three locations on Saturday, October 28 between 10 am and 2 pm.

  • Trinity Hospital Twin City in Dennison at the Main Entrance
  • Union Hospital in Dover at the South Entrance just off the Boulevard
  • Mercy Health Medical Center of Tuscarawas County, 1031 W. High Ave., New Philadelphia

Deputies from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff's office and Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be at the drop-off locations to accept the medications for proper disposal. Simply drive up and drop off unused medications.  The Drug Take Back Day program is completely anonymous and no name or ID will be requested.

Drug Take Back Day is a cooperative effort involving the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Trinity Hospital Twin City, the Union Hospital Employee Recycling Committee, Mercy Health Medical Center of Tuscarawas County, the Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Recycling District, the Tuscarawas County Opiate Task Force  and the Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition.

Drug Take Back Day can help keep potentially dangerous medications out of the hands of children and reduce drug abuse and theft of drugs from homes.  Disposal of unwanted medications in this manner also will protect the environment by keeping powerful drugs out of the sewer systems and groundwater.

In addition to the Drug Take Back Day events on October 28, outdated and unwanted medications may be taken any time of the day or night to the lobby of the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office at 2295 Reiser Ave. SE in New Philadelphia. Other locations that accept prescription medications for safe and legal disposal include the police departments in Dennison, New Philadelphia, Newcomerstown, Strasburg and Sugarcreek. For more information, call (330) 339-2000.
