“Trinity Hospital Twin City to Host Bully-Proof Seminar on Thursday, March 17”

DENNISON—In the 2015 Community Health Needs Assessment conducted by Healthy Tusc, 48% of Tuscarawas County youth in grades six through twelve reported having been bullied in the past year. Furthermore, according to the Centers for Disease Control, bullying can result in physical injury, social and emotional distress, and even death. Victimized youth are at increased risk for depression, anxiety, sleep problems, and poor school adjustment. To address this concern, Trinity Hospital Twin City’s Community Outreach Department is hosting a free mini seminar, “Bully-Proof Your Child,” at 6 pm on Thursday, March 17th, for area parents and guardians who want to help children cope with bullying.

Featured speakers at the event will be Leslie Korns, LSW, PCC-S, and Janna Leeper, MSSA, LISW-S, outpatient clinicians from Chrysalis Counseling Center, Inc. Korns has more than ten years’ experience working directly with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples who suffer from many different types of issues including depression, anxiety, and anger. Leeper has more than thirteen years’ experience and specializes in helping children, youth, and families.

Information about school bullying policies will also be available at the event thanks to the help of the counseling staff of Claymont Schools. “We are thankful to partner with the experts of Chrysalis Counseling Center and Claymont Schools to offer information and help about this important topic,” explained Kelly Bowe, Trinity Hospital Twin City’s Community Outreach Coordinator. “Our hope is that many parents and guardians will attend to receive helpful advice to encourage area children and teens affected by bullying.”

Healthy snacks will be served, and door prizes will be awarded.
